What’s in a Remedial Massage Treatment?
Any of the below can be included in any treatment
Dry Needling
Dry needling is highly effective for relieving musculoskeletal pain, reducing muscle tension, and improving range of motion by targeting myofascial trigger points (“knots”).
Myofascial Cupping
Cupping massage is used to create suction on the skin, drawing up blood and tissues to reduce pain, release muscle tension, and increase circulation. It relieves pain by decompressing tissues rather than compressing them, leaving temporary, harmless circular marks.
Deep Tissue Massage
Applies firm pressure to reach deeper layers of muscle and fascia, essential for releasing chronic tension and adhesions.
Myofascial Release
Myofascial release is a massage technique that focuses on engaging fascia, not changing it. It’s about changing the tone of muscles and giving the nervous system new ideas.
Muscle Energy Technique
Muscle Energy Technique (MET) is an active manual therapy where patients use gentle, controlled muscle contractions against a therapist’s resistance to treat joint restrictions, muscle spasms, and pain. It increases range of motion, lengthens shortened muscles, and improves joint mobility by utilizing neuromuscular mechanisms like post-isometric relaxation.
Trigger Point Therapy
Targets specific, hyperirritable points within a muscle (trigger points) to relieve referred pain.
Effleurage & Petrissage Techniques
Smooth, gliding strokes typically used at the beginning and end of a session to warm up tissues and improve circulation. Kneading, squeezing, or picking up muscles to release tension and improve blood flow
Stretching & Joint Mobilisations
Passive or active techniques to improve range of motion and flexibility.
Cross-Fiber Friction
Applied across the muscle fiber to realign fibers and reduce adhesions.
Heat
Heat in massage, enhances relaxation and therapeutic results by increasing blood circulation, which delivers oxygen and nutrients to tissues while removing waste products. This approach reduces muscle tension, spasms, and joint stiffness, allowing for deeper, more effective massage treatment.
Scraping
Scraping massage, is a traditional Chinese therapeutic technique using smooth-edged tools to stroke the skin, improving circulation and reducing muscle tension
Pregnancy Massage
Pregnancy massage is a specialized, gentle therapeutic treatment designed for expectant mothers to alleviate pregnancy-related discomforts like back pain, swelling, and stress.
